Questions
- How do I check if a trucking company has insurance?
- Enter its USDOT number above. We show the liability insurer, coverage amount and effective date from the federal filing when we hold it, alongside live authority status. Always request a current certificate of insurance (COI) naming you as certificate holder before dispatching.
- How much insurance does a for-hire carrier need?
- Federal minimum public liability for general freight carriers is $750,000. Most brokers and shippers require $1,000,000 auto liability and $100,000 cargo.
- Does FMCSA show when a policy expires?
- Not directly. The federal record shows when coverage became effective and if a cancellation was filed. That is why you should monitor carriers continuously rather than check once.
